Summer Sweaters

When you grow up in New England, lightweight sweaters are a constant in your summer wardrobe. While the days are hot and humid, the nights, especially right by the mountains, or on the coastline, can definitely get chilly. Then again, I feel like the same could be said no matter what coast you're on. West Coast days certainly aren't humid, just hot, but at night, the temps drop right along with the sun. Moral of the story- summer sweaters are a must no matter where you live.

Typically, for my own summer sweaters, I like to buy things that are 100% cotton. They're heavy duty enough if it gets unseasonably cool (Hi, Montauk last weekend!), but the cotton still means they're lightweight and breathable.

I recently found this particular cotton sweater on a complete and total accidental whim. When I realized it wasn't actually going to be overly warm in Montauk on MDW, and that I had in fact packed nothing for cool weather, we made a pit stop in the Hamptons so I could try to find at least one or two warmer things. I went into the store looking for a white hoodie, browsed a few sweaters, had all but given up on finding anything, went to grab the Mr. from the men's section and noticed a whole table of sweaters that said $14. Always a sucker for a good deal, I quickly started to search for the smallest sizes available (they were men's sweaters, after all). And that's when I noticed they were 100% cotton.  For only $14??! And just like that I went from looking for one sweater to thinking both I and the hubs needed one of each in every color. I was basically like Oprah at that point. "You get a sweater, and you get a sweater and you get a sweater!". I mean, let's be real, how often is a quality 100% cotton sweater that affordable? NEVER!

I ended up only getting the cream sweater in an XS (I like my sweaters a bit oversized, plus, since it is all cotton, I wanted to allow some room for shrinking). They aren't marked down quite as low online as they were in stores, but they're still reasonable enough that you should scoop one (or two) up. I've also linked a few other summer sweater options at the bottom of this post.

I'd love to know, do you prefer lightweight sweaters or sweatshirts/hoodies for cool summer nights, or are you more of a light jacket kind of person instead?
