Black and White Cookie Latte
Black and White Cookie Latte RECIPE
I’m about to admit something that I probably shouldn’t. Until I met Dave, I had no idea what black and white cookies were, or that they even existed. I know, I’m embarrassed for me too. Thank God Dave showed me the light and I’ve been obsessed with these cookies ever since. At one point, I even went through a phase making all sorts of black and white cookie items (Anyone remember this epic ice-cream cake?!). And now here we are with a black and white cookie latte, which honestly just feels right. While cookies are only involved in the garnish, it’s a fun ode to our previous home (NYC) and slightly more exciting take on a mocha (but without a ton of extra work). Enjoy for breakfast or dessert, or with an afternoon black and white cookie (because of course).
INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE LATTE
The ingredient list for this recipe is very black and white (pun intended; sorry, I just couldn’t help myself). Here’s what you need to make this latte-
CHOCOLATE- I like to use at least 70% dark, but you can use something darker or use a milk chocolate if you prefer something sweeter
MILK- I like to use 2% regular milk but any milk of your choice will work well
VANILLA BEAN PASTE- I love using vanilla bean paste because the flavor is so much more concentrated, however you can use vanilla extract, just be sure to double the amount to ensure you still get a strong vanilla flavor.
ESPRESSO- I originally developed this recipe using a Nespresso pod, however, you can use any espresso shot of your choice, or you can use one ounce of a very strongly brewed coffee
COCOA POWDER- Use the best quality you can find/afford to dust half of the top of the latte to achieve the black and white cookie look
BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES- I mean, what’s a black and white cookie latte without a black and white cookie on the side?! Of course, they aren’t at all necessary but a fun (and very delicious) touch, and they taste pretty darn good dunked in their namesake latte, if I do say so myself. After all, double the black and white cookies, double the fun, right?!
HOW TO MAKE A BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE LATTE
This latte is as easy to make as it is to drink. Here are the steps to make it-
STEP 1- MELT THE CHOCOLATE
The chocolate gets melted together with a splash of milk and the vanilla to create a rich, thick chocolate paste which will give this latte all it’s delicious flavor.
STEP 2- BREW THE ESPRESSO
If you’re using a pod or a machine like a Breville you can brew the espresso directly into the mug; just give it a stir once it’s done brewing so that it can combine with chocolate mixture.
STEP 3- FROTH THE MILK
Froth the milk to your desired consistency; I like mine to be thick, almost like whipped cream and I love to use the Aeroccino because it warms and froths the milk to the perfect consistency. Once it’s frothed add it into the mug right on top of the espresso.
STEP 4- DUST WITH COCOA POWDER
To get the black and white cookie look, dust half of the top of the latte with cocoa powder and voila! Black and white cookie latte. Bonus points if you serve an actual black and white cookie on the side.
EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE LATTE
ESPRESSO MACHINE- I like to use my Breville, but anything from a Nespresso machine to a Moka will work as long as it brews espresso.
MILK FROTHER- I lOVE my Nespresso Aeroccino (so much so that I even travel with it) so I use that for this recipe, but feel free to use a hand frother, the frother attached to your espresso machine or any preferred milk frother of choice.

BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE LATTE
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon chopped dark chocolate
- 1 tablespoon + 1/2 cup milk of your choice (I like to use 2% regular milk)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 Arpeggio coffee capsule (or 1 espresso shot of your choice)
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
- Black and white cookies, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a small pan set over low heat, combine the chocolate, 1 tablespoon of milk and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until melted and combined. Spoon into a serving mug and set aside.
- Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of milk into the Aeroccino and select your choice of froth. Pour on top of the chocolate. Then brew the Arpeggio espresso (or espresso of your chocie) directly into the mug.
- Dust half of the top with cocoa powder (to resemble a Black and White cookie) and serve with a Black and White cookie on the side (if desired). Stir to combine before drinking.
