Morning Routine + Rituals
MY MORNING ROUTINE + RITUALS
Carrying right along in the unofficial series of things I’m doing to get through/out of my January slump and get myself back on track. My morning routine and rituals. It’s changed a bit here and there over the years, but the general structure has stayed the same since I wrote this post (although now it’s a bit more like before 10am versus 9am ha!). However, whenever I get super busy, like so many other things, my morning routine definitely starts to slip (which seems to be the theme with anything important in my life). So as part of me getting back into the swing of things, I’m reviving my morning routine and getting back to the rituals that help me to feel grounded, centered and ready to take on the day with intention. I shared a quick peek at my routine in this reel, but I wanted to give a full break down here, for anyone else who might need some inspiration to set an intentional morning routine or get back into an old one.
WAKE UP WITHOUT AN ALARM CLOCK
I think alarm clocks are such an obnoxious and brutal way to start the day, so over the years, I’ve trained myself to wake up naturally, which I do anywhere between 6:30-8am (typically). It kicks the morning off in a much easier and peaceful way.
PUT ON COZY SOCKS/SLIPPERS
Immediately I put on warm socks, slippers, a robe, whatever I need to be cozy before heading to the bathroom, brushing my teeth and then making my way to the kitchen.
HAVE A BIG GLASS OF WATER WITH LEMON OR ELECTROLYTES
I immediately start the coffee machine (I make sure everything is ready to go the night before because I need the time between when I open my eyes and take my my first sip of coffee to be as minimal as possible) and while I wait for it to brew, I have a big glass of water with either a squeeze of lemon or my electrolyte powder mixed in.
MAKE A LATTE
Once coffee is ready, I usually make a latte (right now I’m on a vanilla almond milk latte kick).
CREATE A VIBE
Then I light a cozy candle, turn on my diffuser and play some chill tunes.
PRAY + MEDITATE
I spend about 10-15 minutes praying and meditating (I use a mix of apps + a prayer book).
GRATITUDE JOURNAL
I fill out my gratitude journal for the day (right now I do this on a this free app).
READ SOMETHING MOTIVATIONAL
I rotate through a few of my favorite motivational books and make sure I spend at least a few minutes reading something positive that inspires me.
JOURNAL
I spend about 10-20 minutes journaling about whatever is on my mind. This really helps me to clear my head and get my thoughts in order, and I notice such a huge difference, mentally, when I do it consistently (or when I miss a day).
MAKE THE BED
Because you know what they say about making your bed in the morning…really sets the tone for the whole day!
TAKE A WALK AROUND THE BLOCK
I change into workout clothes and then we head out for a quick walk around the block to get in some movement and fresh air.
MAKE A GREEN JUICE
Back home, I make my green juice (celery, cucumber, lemon, ginger + fresh mint).
HAVE MY SUPPLEMENTS
Right now I take a probiotic, vitamin c, vitamin D, vitamin B, zinc and a fish oil. I take the probiotic with my green juice and save the other vitamins to have with breakfast.
WORKOUT
I try to get in some movement, whether it’s pilates, yoga or weight lifting, or even just put on some good tunes and dancing around.
MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE
I finish with a quick shower (unless it’s dreaded hair washing day….I know all my girls know what I mean I say that haha) and my morning skincare routine, which always includes body brushing, lotion (I rotate sunlass tanner every other day with a body cream or coconut oil), my NuFace and Guasha and my skincare routine (you can see a peek at my current routine here).
