Summer 2020 Isn't Cancelled
Summer 2020 Isn't Cancelled
Hear me out.
I know this is the time of year where we are all usually making summer goals, warm-weather vacation plans and spending weekends posted up at a beach and/or pool. And I know it’s different for everyone, depending on where you live, but for myself, and many of us, it’s safe to say that exactly zero percent of those typical summer things will be happening this year. However, I refuse to give up completely. I refuse to let this time be a total waste. I refuse to not find some sort of joy where I can. I refuse to give up on summer. Because as far as I’m concerned, the calendar hasn’t cancelled summer, so neither am I.
Now, does that mean summer is going to look different than other summers? Of course it does. You’d be a fool to think otherwise. And if you keep holding out hope that it will look like any other summer, that’s your first mistake. The biggest thing you have to do to make sure that this summer feels like, well, summer, is reframe your mindset to focus on the things you can control. If you need some ideas to get you started, below is a list of ideas that I’ve come up with so far for me and my NOT cancelled summer.
Make a fun new summer playlist
Try new grilling recipes
Relax in the backyard
Plant flowers
Experiment with some new recipes for popsicles and ice-cream
Start reading again {when the libraries temporarily closed, I stopped reading, but I recently joined a book club to help me get started again}
Buy a new summer hat {to wear to the backyard ha!}
Get an inflatable pool {still working on convincing the Mr. on this one}
Make s’mores
Spend time watercolor painting
Have backyard movie screenings {We just got a projector!!}
Find some new summer scented candles to burn
Work on some new pottery pieces
Add a few new breezy pieces to my summer wardrobe (things like the Brochu Walker skirt that I’m wearing in these photos)
Enjoy a sunset car picnic on the side of PCH
Make a summery flower arrangemement
Have themed backyard happy hours from places we currently can’t travel to (i.e. Italian aperitivo, or one with French foods, etc.)
Have a mezcal tasting {again, in our backyard}
Order a pretty new coffee table book {I’m thinking one with pictures from the Med?!}
Have a tie-dye sesh
Take an actual summer Friday and go for a drive, have an early happy hour, just take time to relax, etc.
