5 Italian Beauty Products to Add to Your Makeup Bag
Italians are probably better known for their pasta and wine than they are their beauty products but I couldn’t resist scoping out the local pharmacies, ya know, for “research”. I came away with a few products that I now use on the regular. Unfortunately, there were also a couple of products I was hoping to snag but couldn’t track down (I’m including them below under 'Honorable Mentions' just in case you’re curious). Also, I included shoppable links wherever I could, but many of the products are hard to track down on-line and/or stateside. Soooooo, I guess I’ll just need to travel to Italy every time I want to stock up. What a total bummer…
Marvis Toothpaste || The packaging, the unique flavors, the quality ingredients...just a few of the reasons that I can't get enough of this Florentine toothpaste! I have yet to try all the flavors but we love the Ginger Mint one and we also grabbed the Whitening Mint on our last trip to Italy. While it's now readily available in the US, as well as online, it's half the price in Italy so if you happen to be visiting stock up on a few boxes at the local pharmacy. PSA, they also come in travel sizes.
Pupa Milano Vamp Eyeshadow (Shade #102) || I wear this eyeshadow almost every day. It glides on smoothly, it can be applied wet or dry, it stays put and it adds just the right amount of shimmer. I haven't seen a place to order it online here in the US but it's super affordable (I think with the conversion rate each shadow is around $5) and readily available in Italy. My only regret? I didn't buy it in more colors....
Deborah Il Rossetto Lipstick (Shade #602) || I recently featured this lipstick in my red lip how-to. It's quickly become one of my favorite red shades to wear as it goes on lighter than some of my other red lipsticks, making it perfect for daytime wear. With the conversion rate, this lipstick costs about $7 in Italy, and, just like the eyeshadow, it seems next to impossible to find here in the US. I did manage to track it down in one spot online, although it's more than triple what you’d pay for it in Italy.
Honorary Mentions || Santa Maria Novella Aqua Di Rose or Acqua Distillata Alle Rose, both Italian rose waters that have been around for years, both equally hard to track down while I was in Italy (maybe I was just looking in the wrong spot?!). I did manage to successfully hunt them down on-line, which is good because I've heard nothing but incredible things and I'm anxious to try them out for myself. Umbria Clay Bar isn't actually made in Italy (plus side: it's an easy item to find here in the US), however it is made of 100% Umbrian clay, which is found solely in the town of Nocera Umbra, Italy, hence why I still count it as an Italian beauty product. It's known for its healing and clarifying capabilities, especially in regards to acne.
