Summer Shirt Dress in the Fall

Hello, hello, hello lovely people! Did you have a good weekend? We spent ours visiting my Nana in the Berkshires. It was a quiet weekend filled with fall foliage (And snow!!! What the what??!), mountain views, apple cider donuts and Nan's jokes and cooking aka just what I needed.

When summer made a quick come back last week, I decided to shoot this look I wore all the way back during Fashion Week. I know that was basically an eternity ago, but the outfit still works so were rolling with it. In fact, it was actually still too hot for this look when I wore it in September (Full disclosure: I was sweating my face off!), but now the temperatures are just right. Go figure.

This shirt dress is one of my favorite pieces in my closet (you probably spotted it on my Instagram a while back). Yet, despite the fact that I find myself in it almost every other day, I'm only now just getting around to showcasing it fully. It's from a local line, updownacross, made right here in NYC's garment district by a girl boss (Joann Kim) who knows a thing or two about fashion and design (Her other job is managing her father's fashion studio that does sample and development for high-end well-known brands). All the pieces from this direct-to-consumer line are easy-to-wear, modern yet simple and completely affordable. Like, you know those items that you just throw on and they just fit right and you don't need accessories with them because they're just perfect on their own? This line is full of those pieces. And seeing as I tried on at least half the line, I would know. I had such a tough time deciding on which item to get (this was really pulling at my heart strings) but ultimately I went for the shirt dress because of its versatility. Not only was it great in the summer paired with some simple espadrilles, but now I can even layer it and wear it into fall. Today that layering means blush pink pants (which should come as no surprise, given the blush crush I've been having lately) and a slim scarf. As it gets colder, it'll mean pairing it with a long sleeve shirt and some flats. Not only is this piece a winner in my book for its ease and versatility, but it's also a great reminder to think outside the box when it comes to seasonal dressing.

What summer pieces do you transition into your fall wardrobe?
