MONTH AHEAD // SEPTEMBER ’23

A SMALL TASTE OF WHAT'S COMING UP THIS MONTH

EDITOR’S NOTE //

A new month, a new opportunity for me to say the same old thing “Wow! X month already! I feel like the last month just got here! Where does the time go??!” But seriously….how is it September already??! And am I the only one who feels like they’re just not quite ready for fall!? Because, ok, same.

Here’s the thing. I just adore this time of year, where the late golden days of summer fade into the warm embrace of early autumn. But for some reason this year feels different. Fall feels so distant and far away. Maybe it’s because we live in LA where one season just endlessly morphs into the next, or maybe because it feels like summer in LA this year was…nonexistent?! I mean, I’m pretty sure we’ve had more cloudy days than we have had beach days. I’m not complaining by any means. You know I love a moody beach. But all this leaves me feeling like I’m still waiting for summer start whilst in actuality fall is lurking just around the calendar corner.

Funny enough, despite the lack of obvious change of seasons, one thing I’m not lacking is the burst of motivation and renewed creativity that abounds with each new season. I have more ideas than I have time, more content than I know what to do with, more recipes than one person can possibly cook and consume, more excitement than I’ve felt in a long time. After drowning in the aftermath of our break-in, wondering if I’d ever feel like myself again, let alone feel creative, motivated and excited, I can’t possibly put into words and begin to explain what it feels like to feel these feelings once again. I’m just so unbelievably grateful. And grateful for each and every one of you that’s stuck with me through the low lows (aka where I’ve had almost no new content and been nothing but an orchestra of sadness and complaints).

Here’s to new seasons, whether it’s on the calendar or in life! xx

HAPPENINGS //

WHAT I’M PINNING //

Seasonal transitions via my SEPTEMBER INSPO BOARD

WHAT I’M COOKING //

Not quite done with summer produce, not quite ready for fall cooking, so I’m working with the in-between, hanging onto every last tomato while also slowly working my way towards soups and cozy meals one brothy bean and pasta dish at a time

WHAT I’M WEARING //

I’ve been wearing a CJLA denim jumpsuit on repeat (this one is similar) as well as just the classics of denim, a white tee or a good button down

WHAT I’M LOVING //

Mini whisks that I picked up from my favorite childhood kitchen store when I was back home in the Berkshires earlier this year; don’t be fooled by their tiny size, they get a surprising amount of use, whether it’s to whisk eggs before I scramble them, mix together a salad dressing, or blend up a powdered beverage with water; these toning pads, which, not to be dramatic or anything, have legit changed my skin; the most delicious scent diffused throughout our house to give it all the warm and cozy feels and the beans that I can’t get enough of (spoiler alert: they’re from Trader Joe’s!)

WHAT I’M EYEING //

All things chocolate brown, including these ballet flats and these (definitely out of my budget) boots, this bag (this one is also a major beauty) and this hat

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO //

Morgan Wallen on repeat

WHAT I’M WATCHING //

You are So Not Invited to My Bar Mitzvah (a cute and funny movie that’s great for when you need an easy laugh)

WHAT I’M WORKING ON //

After many delays, I swear this is the month I’m truly finally relaunching my newsletter. I’m also simultaneously putting the final touches on plans for holiday and 4th quarter as well as something I’m launching in January while also planning for….summer 2024???! I know, what??! I can’t even wrap my head around it either. But we’re working on something big for later next year that requires advance planning, which is not my strong suit so wish me luck. And maybe get your passports ready. Hint, hint ;)
