A Note on 2018


And just like that another year has come and gone.

I’ve long since stopped doing resolutions, words of the year, and all that other jazz. I just find, for me, personally, it doesn’t work. Instead, it sets me up for failure, or makes me miserable about the things I didn’t accomplish (because Lord knows that list is never ending). Rather, I like to reflect back on a year, find the highs to be grateful for and the lows to learn lessons from (of which there were no shortage this past year), and set new visions and goals for the year ahead. However, unlike resolutions that are made just once a year, I’m constantly reflecting and tweaking my goals and visions. This allows me to adjust as needed, and set new goals whenever I feel ready for them, not when the calendar tells me I should. As I go into 2019, this is something I will continue doing, both personally and professionally.

2018 was a weird year, a difficult year. My mental and physical health suffered. I didn’t travel as much as I would have liked. I, weirdly, felt like spending more time at home, on my couch, than I did out and about exploring. Our transition to LA hasn’t been the easiest, and at times has even made us question why we moved in the first place. Many relationships in my life fell apart and/or became tumultuous, making me feel very alone more often than I care to admit. Through it all, I struggled to maintain a public-facing business, while every ounce of my being was screaming for me to retreat into the back of some dark, forlorn corner, consumed in sweatpants, puddles of tears and miserable thoughts. In other words, thank you, next. 2018, I’m ready to see you go.

As I typically do at the beginning of January, I will be taking some time off from producing articles for the next few weeks to reflect, educate ( via TED talks, books, etc.), organize and prep for the year ahead. I’m excited to develop new content and new directions for 2019, while continuing with current favorites and working to really build up the Give + B.Support series, as well as building a brand beyond Runway Chef. I’m also really hoping to develop more artistic photo shoots this year, continue working with film, and spending more time here on my site, creating content and articles, and less time on Instagram and social media, worried about numbers and the layout of my feed. As always, I welcome any feedback. If there is anything you want to see more or less of, please feel free to let me know. After all, this site, my work, the RC brand, all of it would be nothing without YOU. Thank you for reading, supporting through the good and the bad, being there (both silently and visibly), and allowing me to do what I do. You have no idea how much it really, truly means to me.
