5 Quotes I'm Living By in 2019

If you know me,

you know it’s no secret how much I love my quotes. I’ve been inspired by quotes for as long as I can remember, and jotting them down in notebooks for even longer. One of my favorite Pinterest boards to pin to is my “Wise Words” board, last year I started sharing a quote of the week on Instagram stories {which now have their own highlight on my feed + even their own Pinterest board for easy saving + sharing, because I’m all about spreading the quote love} and I even started sharing the week’s quote in the footer of my site {Have you seen it down there?!}. Suffice it to say, I kind of have a thing for quotes.

While I’ve been inspired by, written down, saved and shared thousands of quotes, there have been a few that have really been standing out to me lately, so much so that I decided to make them my quotes of the year and the words that I’m living by in 2019. This isn’t something I’ve ever done before, but they all fit so well with the thoughts and feelings I’ve been having lately win regards to work and life {some of which I touched on in this post}, it only made sense to dub them as, sort of, mottos for the year, if you will.

Keeping scrolling to read the 5 quotes I’m living by in 2019, and why I chose the ones that I did. And, if you feel so inclined to share, I’d love to hear some of your favorite quotes in the comments {below}.

Seek to be worth knowing, rather than be well-known // I’ve never been driven by numbers, but in an industry that seems to be becoming more and more obsessed with them, it can be hard to focus on anything else and found your worth outside of that. However, numbers have never mattered to me. In fact, they’re really anything I even track. What matters to me is making an impact, making a difference, making someone’s day. I would rather have only 5 followers that feel like I am worth following and knowing, than 5 million followers that aren’t gaining a single thing from me.

The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind // Everything begins and ends in your mind. If you believe you can do something, you can. If you believe you can’t, well then, you can’t. Positive thoughts, negative thoughts, anxious feelings, excited feelings, thinking things will workout, or thinking things won’t, your self-worth, your motivation…every outward aspect of your life starts with whatever thoughts and feelings are being manifested in your mind. So, this quote is a reminder, that if you want to succeed, if you want to feel good about yourself, if you want to be positive, if you want to be at peace, whatever it is you want to do in your life, or whatever it is you want to be, it begins with getting your mind right first. Get it right, get it tight.

Create more than you consume // With so much happening in the world and on social media at all times, it’s easy to get distracted, play the comparison game and focus more on what everyone else is doing rather than staying in your lane, going at your speed, focusing on your goals and what you’re doing. This for me is a reminder to focus more on what I’m creating and doing, and less on consuming what others are creating and doing.

Don’t fear failure. Fear being in the same place as last year. // When I was reflecting on previous year’s goals in order to make ones for 2019, I noticed a pattern. I keep writing down the same big goals, and I keep not doing anything about them. Part of it is because of unexpected opportunities that have come up, part of it is life things I can’t control, but I know the biggest part of it is fear of failing. What if my ideas are dumb? What if no one likes them, or supports me, or buys them? What if I waste time and money on something that doesn’t work out? As I was looking over these goals, that I’ve now become all too familiar with, something finally clicked inside me and I decided right then and there that 2019 would be the last year these goals would be written down. Because here’s the thing, I can either spend my life wondering “what if”, or I can do something about it. And honestly, doing something about is a win regardless. If I fail, the win is a lesson learned. But if I soar, well, I think the only thing I’ll be kicking myself for is that I didn’t try sooner. At the very least, I know I won’t be in the same place as I was last year.

You’re not going to master your life in one day. Just master one day at a time. // Patience is my biggest struggle. I want everything done and I want it done now. I hate waiting. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than a completely crossed off to-do list. But the reality is, things just take time. After all, if we got everything done, what would we do with the rest of our lives? In a way, there would be nothing to live for, nothing to accomplish or achieve. This quote is a reminder to slow down, be patient, and remember that things, especially good things, take time.

Runner Up Favorite quotes for 2019 (because you know it was just too hard for me to narrow it down to five)- “Everything happens for a reason”, “You are your only limit”, “Can’t is not an option”, “The only trip you’ll regret is the one you don’t take”, “Every ADVENTURE requires a first step”, “Talk to yourself like you would someone you love” and “Sometimes on the way to a dream you get lost + find a better one”.

I’d love to know- what are some of your favorite quotes? any specific ones that you’re living by this year?
